Three University of Wyoming students got some good news recently receiving scholarships from a national organization.

Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, awarded $408,000 to 210 students. Nationwide, 791 students applied for the awards. Most recipients receive a cash award of $2,000 for their senior year of engineering study, and a few will receive $1,000 for one semester.

All Tau Beta Pi Scholarships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. All scholars are members of Tau Beta Pi.

UW students who earned the TBP scholarships include:

-- Jose Andres Cabrera Rodas, chemical engineering, earned the Dodson Scholarship, sponsored by Charles R. Dodson, who made generous gifts in 1998 and 1999.

-- Kyle Gilman, electrical engineering, received the Scribner Scholarship, named for A. Clayton Scribner, whose bequest in 2003 permanently endows the awards.

-- Michael Love, mechanical engineering, was awarded the Stabile Scholarship, named for Vincent A. Stabile, whose gifts to the association, along with gifts from the Vincent A. Stabile Foundation, have permanently endowed scholarships.
