The UW chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will conduct the “Women in Engineering” Conference at the Enzi STEM building.

Middle-school aged girls are encouraged to register for an outreach event hosted by a University of Wyoming student organization.

The UW chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will conduct the “Women in Engineering” Conference at the Enzi STEM building. It takes place Sept. 23 and organizers hope for 50 participants.

The one-day conference features five workshops focused on different disciplines of engineering, taught by faculty and graduate students from the CEAS. The Multicultural Association of Student Societies will serve as a partner organization for the event and will lead a tour of campus for parents and educators in the morning. A small breakfast and lunch will be provided.

“We are very happy to have this chance to demonstrate our fields of study to middle school girls,” event coordinator Annaliese Fitzsimmons says. “By sharing our passion of engineering with girls, especially at the age when enthusiasm for science and math starts to wane, we hope that we can foster a lasting interest in engineering.

“We want to show them that it is a very exciting field and that there are lots of different things they can do in engineering right here at UW.”

Prospective attendees should click here to register. For questions, contact Fitzsimmons at afitzsi1@uwyo.edu or via the group email at swe.uwyo@gmail.com.
