June 27, 2018
Statue in Laramie park
A celebration for a statue honoring Kenny Sailors will take place June 29 in Laramie.

A statue depicting the University of Wyoming's Kenny Sailors will be unveiled in Laramie's Washington Park on June 29.

The unveiling ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at the park’s basketball courts.

Sailors, who is credited with inventing the modern jump shot, led UW to the 1943 NCAA men's basketball championship. His statue was sculpted by Green River's Rudy Gunter.

College of Engineering and Applied Science alumnus Bruce Pivic (B.S. electrical engineering '84) and his wife Carla donated the statue. GE Johnson, U.S. Engineering and Domino Construction, all of which have contributed to the construction of the Engineering Education and Research Building, donated time and materials to place the statue for the City of Laramie.
