New Student Convocation Provides College Introduction

Students new to the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) will have a chance to become familiar with faculty, staff and classmates next week.
The annual CEAS New Student Convocation will welcome nearly 500 individuals to the campus of the University of Wyoming. It takes place Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Enzi STEM Facility Atrium.
It is geared toward first-time freshmen and transfers who are beginning their journey at the college in 2018. The annual event serves as a way to allow newcomers an opportunity to get to know one another and the faculty and staff with whom they’ll spend the coming years.
CEAS Associate Dean Steve Barrett will offer a welcome to the group and CEAS ambassadors will help guide discussions among the participants. Topics such as crisis counseling, professional courtesy and conduct, engineering societies, academic resources, study abroad, academic dishonesty and career services will be addressed.
"Our annual engineering convocation serves as the official kick-off event for the school year,” CEAS K-14 Project Coordinator Teddi Freedman says. “It's an exciting opportunity for new students to meet their peers, along with engineering faculty and staff. As a member of the CEAS Center for Student Success, I look forward to connecting with our students and to witnessing their success over the course of their college career."
