
Get to Know: Jeffrey Wen

Each year, departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Wyoming nominate their top graduating senior for the Wyoming Engineering Society Student Engineer of the Year honor. The WES Scholarships and Awards Committee will review written nomination forms and interview each candidate to select the Student Engineer of the Year.
Name: Jeffrey Wen
Hometown: Casper, Wyo.
Major: Electrical Engineering
Why did you choose UW for your education? UW has an engineering program focused on small-class interaction where students can truly build a relationship with professors. The faculty are always willing to answer questions and provide help whenever needed.
Why did you want to study engineering? I want to build new, innovative technology. The basis of electrical engineering provides the foundation needed to contribute to many of the cutting-edge products in development, including consumer electronics, autonomous vehicles and robotics.
What sets UW engineering apart? I am very impressed with the faculty’s willingness to allocate time towards helping students. Unlike many large universities, the faculty is truly dedicated to providing a quality education for the students.
Do you participate in any extracurricular activities? I’m a part of Tau Beta Pi, Cardinal Key Honor Society, Intramural Advisory Committee, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Spikeball Club.
What are your post-graduation plans? I plan to attend graduate school.
What are some of your thoughts on being the department nominee for such a prestigious honor? Through working in teams and becoming friends with many of my fellow students, I know there is a large pool of very talented and qualified students. It is a great honor to be selected from this impressive pool as the electrical engineering nominee.
