Some of the state's brighest young minds descended on the University of Wyoming campus for an academics competition this week.

The Wyoming Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science (TEAMS) competition took place Monday on the UW campus. The university hosts the annual event for high school students. During this day-long competition, students are encouraged to apply math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges. More than 90 students from across the state participated in this year’s challenge.

The team from Green River won the multiple choice and design/build competitions for the 11th- and 12th-grade levels, while Torrington came out on top for the same categories for 9th and 10th grades.

The winning teams earn an invitation to the national TEAMS competition June 28-July 2 in Washington, D.C. All participating teams still will scored on the essay portion, which was submitted prior to the competition to the national office. The national office will finalizing those scores in March.

Other supporters of the event include the Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium and School of Energy Resources.
