The Primary Mission of the Latina/o Studies Program is:

The mission of the Latina/o Studies Program at the University of Wyoming is to engage students in the areas of U.S. Latina/o literature, history, performance, and the social sciences. Utilizing an interdisciplinary framework, students examine colonial/decolonial, relational, comparative, transnational and global research and criticism to reflect on the historical and contemporary contributions of U.S. Latinos to regional, national, and global communities. For undergraduate students with an interest in our minor, we are dedicated to disseminating transformational knowledge as they actively participate in a diverse, global, and multi-ethnic society.  We seek to advance research and scholarship on Latina/o cultures.

The goals of the Latina/o Studies Program:

  • Provide education regarding the history, culture, and contemporary status of Latinas/os  by offering significant, quality courses on a consistent basis.
  • Serve educational need of the Latina/o American population in the state and region by supporting and sponsoring student events which promote and affirm a robust Latina/o identity.
  • Disseminate information about Latina/o experience by participating in local, state, and national forums for scholarly work.
  • Enhance student recruitment at the University of Wyoming by supporting and participating in activities (in schools and at the university) and mentorship focused on Latina/o student experiences and pathways to success.
  • Advance and support research and other scholarly activities by generating new knowledge and perspectives regarding the Latina/o experience.
  • Build partnership at the University of Wyoming and throughout the state by connecting with departments, colleges, local, and state wide organizations and communities.
