"The program has instilled in me a love and respect for the profession. While many skills are still in serious need of honing, I believe that the foundational respect is paramount, the rest I can work on and will do so with a profound sense of honor and pride. Thank you all for your patience with us students!"
- Steven Roerig, Survey Technician
The University of Wyoming Land Surveying Program provides surveying specific education by surveyors for surveyors. The instructors give instruction for both licensure preparation and daily practice. The instructors are working professionals with years of experience; they have been exposed to the results of poorly trained surveyors so their goal is to help you to be “a cut above”.
In the Field
Our crew had just paused to catch up on our field notes and prepare to set our next control station. This young black bear who had been watching us meandered out of the timber and made his way to our theodolite. He stood up on his hind legs and imitated the instrument person, the bear was curious about what we were doing in his territory. - Kent Felderman
Our Land Surveying Program is designed for working surveyors who want to improve and progress. The Minor in Land Surveying, the Cadastral Surveying Certificate, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership, and all of the Land Surveying classes are available via distance learning. This allows the working surveyor to obtain the surveying specific education necessary for licensure without interrupting their employment.
The lectures are prerecorded and are downloaded via the internet. Student/instructor interaction generally occurs via a teleconference one evening per week. Tests are usually take-home with the exception of a proctored final exam.
