Flat-bar Impact Damper

An impact damper consisting of a flat steel bar and a 10 lb (4.5 kg) steel weight was secured to the mast arm. When the mast arm oscillates in plane, the weight oscillates and impacts a steel bar mounted to the mast arm. This impact dissipates energy and provides a damping effect.
