Federal Internships

Law Enforcement Internship Opportunities

In addition to academic training, the program in Criminal Justice is geared toward providing the practical skills that will be required of persons working with criminal  justice and other service delivery systems.  Field placements in various agencies are available to students in their junior and senior years.  Interns are given the opportunity to gain firsthand experience related to their future careers and to assess personally whether any particular role is suitable as an occupation.  Internships vary between one to six credit hours per semester, and students are allowed to take a maximum of six credit hours of internships.

• FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center)

• Attorneys' Offices
• SAFE House
• Girls/Boys Schools
• Department of Family Services

The objective of this course is to integrate practical criminal justice experience with academic knowledge.  The student is expected both to participate in specifically 
assigned duties and to observe the broader activities of the sponsoring organization.  
Further expectations involve reflecting upon this participation and observation in the form of written assignments.

CJ Practicums

A practicum experience will provide students with both a renewed and deeper perspective on their classroom learning.  Additional information and experience will enhance their ability to be successful in graduate or professional schools or as practitioners in a Criminal Justice field. 
The practicum can act as a capstone course which integrates the  student 's prior academic work, especially courses in Criminal Justice.

The objective of a Criminal Justice Practicum is to: provide students with an opportunity to apply classroom (theoretical) learning in an agency setting; encourage the development of a professional identity , and an appropriate set of professional skills and values; help students identify or clarify their career interest; provide agencies with an opportunity to observe and evaluate potential staff; and provide students with the opportunity to conduct participant research in a justice agency.
