Counselor Education Learner Outcomes

Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision

Doctoral students in Counselor Education & Supervision will demonstrate the following learner outcomes through the development of a professional e-portfolio that is presented and reviewed on an annual basis. The following schedule will guide the e-portfolio process for all doctoral students:

  • Start Portfolio: Year 1, Fall Semester
  • 1st Review: Year 1, Spring Semester
  • 2nd Review: Year 2, Spring Semester
  • Oral Defense of Portfolio: Year 2, Spring Semester
  • 3rd Review: Year 3, Spring Semester

Learner Outcome I: Professional Competence

Students will demonstrate academic preparation by developing and completing an approved program of study that meets the standards set forth by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area (1st, 2nd & 3rd year review):

a. Approved Program of Study
b. CACREP Standards for Doctoral Studies
c. Summary Connecting Program of Study and CACREP Standards

Learner Outcome II: Democratic Perspectives

Students will demonstrate development as a culturally competent, creative, skilled & ethical counselor, supervisor and/or educator. The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area:

a. Philosophy Statements (required to include cultural competence, ethics…)

• Counseling (1st, 2nd & 3rd year Review)
• Supervision (2nd & 3rd year Review)
• Teaching and/or Administrative (2nd & 3rd year Review)
• Individual Wellness Plan (1st, 2nd & 3rd year Review)

b. Doctorate Internship Plan & Summary (1st, 2nd & 3rd year Review)
c. Dissertation Proposal/Final Draft (2nd & 3rd year Review)
d. Research and/or Creative Endeavors

• Manuscript Submission #1 to a Refereed Journal (2nd year Review)
• Manuscript Submission #2 Plan (2nd & 3rd year Review)
• Regional/National Professional Conference Presentations (2nd & 3rd year Review)

Learner Outcome III: Professional Identity

Students will develop a professional identity as a professional counselor educator including the areas of advocacy, leadership, social justice, and promoting caring communities. The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area (1st, 2nd & 3rd year Review):

Summative Review (include the following)

• Professional/Community Advocacy
• Professional Association Role
• Mental Health Professions Licensing Board Attendance
• Student Mentorship (not to include supervision, teaching..)
• University/College Committee Participation

Learner Outcome IV: Academic & Professional Goals

Students will demonstrate a clear vision of their professional and academic goals. The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area (1st, 2nd & 3rd year review):

a. Current Professional Goals Statement
b. Vitae/Resume
c. Dissertation Statement/Abstract
d. Completed Committee Portfolio Evaluation

Learner Outcome V: Professional Licensure

Students will obtain professional licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wyoming. The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area (1st, 2nd & 3rd year review):

a. PPC/LPC Verification (or Active Plan to Obtain Licensure with Specific Timelines)
b. Professional Disclosure Statement (as required by the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board)

Learner Outcomes M.S. in Counseling

All Master’s students in Counseling will demonstrate the following learner outcomes through the development of a professional portfolio that is presented and reviewed on an annual basis. The following schedule will guide the portfolio process for all master’s students:

• Start Portfolio: Year 1, Summer Semester
• 1st Review: Year 1, Spring Semester (Department Review)
• 2nd Review: Year 2, Fall Semester (Committee Review & Feedback)
• Celebration: Year 2, Spring Semester (Poster Presentation of Portfolio)

Learner Outcome I: Professional Competence & Academic Preparation for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Students will demonstrate academic preparation by developing and completing an approved program of study that meets the standards set forth by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The following documentation will demonstrate progress in this area:

d) Disclosure Statement/Informed Consent Statement (2nd year Review)
