April 2003
In April, the College of Education put in place a new student ambassador program. Twelve academically successful and enthusiastic undergraduate students were selected to represent the College in an effort to promote its visibility and reputation. Ambassadors are expected to interact with prospective and current affiliates of the college and to serve as a valuable source of information about the College and its various departments. In addition, it is hoped ambassadors will provide feedback to the College regarding concerns, requests, or issues raised by prospective students, current students, alumni, and other constituents.

Selection of this first group of ambassadors was based upon the following: commitment to the College’s development and improvement; enthusiasm for and pride in the College; self-direction and high level of motivation; strong communication skills, and strong personal and social skills. In addition, it was expected that ambassadors be fulltime undergraduate students enrolled in an academic major in the College of Education, have completed at least one semester (15 credit hours) in the College, have taken at least two semesters of credit hours at UW with a minimum g.p.a. of 3.0, and have at least one year remaining before graduation.

College of Education Ambassadors shall generally serve one-two year terms and shall participate in the following activities:

  • Act as a liaison between students, prospective students, alumni, and distinguished guests of the university
  • Provide campus visitors with information about the college and its various departments
  • Attend group meetings
  • Contact prospective students, writing notes to students regarding campus visits, and other assigned duties
  • Commit to 4 or 5 scheduled events per semester, such as discovery days, spring recognition banquet, prospective student tours, serving on committees/boards as liaison and student representative, and participate in alumni events.

Senior Ashley Maloney will coordinate this year’s ambassador program.
