Play Therapy Institute

Expanded understanding and skills development are the primary goals of the first Wyoming Institute for Play Therapy, scheduled for July 29-30 in Laramie.

Curriculum for the institute, co-sponsored by the University of Wyoming Counselor Education Department and the Wyoming Association for Play Therapy, will be tailored to two key audiences: early childhood educators and counselors who work with children (e.g., school counselors, community counselors and other mental health professionals). It features four plenary sessions covering general interest topics and workshops that include clinical and educational tracks.

“We wanted to be able to speak to both audiences, and to get those two groups together to interact and to network,” Michael Morgan, assistant professor of counselor education and institute director, says.

Among the featured session topics are “Use of Art in Play Therapy,” “Toys as Tools,” “Persuading Others to Accept Play Interventions,” and “Resolving Emotional Concerns with Attachment Based Play.”

Sue Bratton, associate professor and director of the Center for Play Therapy at the University of North Texas, is the institute’s featured presenter. Other presenters are Morgan; Jennifer Freyensee, RPT; Lisa Collins, PhD and Mary Alice Bruce, UW associate professor of counselor education.

For more information, or to register for the institute, contact Adrienne Zeller at the UW Conferences and Institutes Office, 1-877-733-3618 (toll-free) or 1-307-766-2124.
