Barb Hirokawa
Art teacher at Columbine High School
1974 – 2001
An art teacher since 1968, since her retirement in 2001 Ms. Hirokawa has traveled the country lecturing on and organizing student shows about trauma art. She has received numerous art education grants and leadership awards, including Colorado Art Educator of the Year in 2000. She testified before the House committee when the standards bill was first introduced, and is presently a member of the Colorado State Standards Writing Team. Besides being a consummate educator, Ms. Hirokawa has continually pursued her own art, and is presently working toward healing through her work.
