Incoming Students

We typically accept 18 students a year into our residential graduate program and 6 students into our distance program. Our residential class is typically made up of approximately one-third students who were our UWyo undergraduate majors, one-third who were UWyo levelers (with bachelor’s from another field), and one third out-of-state students. The distance class is typically made up of one-third Wyoming residents and two-thirds out-of-state students.

The undergraduate preparation is similar across the three types of students. However, there are some curricular differences that should be noted: UWyo undergraduates and levelers have taken courses in neurological bases of communication, research methods, and aural rehabilitation. Out-of-staters are often missing one to three of these courses  and must make them up while in the graduate program. We recommend students take those courses prior to commencing our graduate program.

Acceptance into the program is on a competitive basis. In the 2013, our residential applications numbered 148 and distance applications numbered 75. Table 1 shows the mean undergraduate GPA, GRE verbal-quantitative, and GRE writing scores for the past three years for students in our program.
