University of Wyoming Assistant Professor Lars Kotthoff has been awarded a research experience for undergraduates supplement to his NSF grant 1813537 on developing more robust performance models for AI modeling. The funds will be used to employ two undergraduate research assistants over the summer to work with state-of-the-art AI techniques and learn how to conduct independent research.

Kotthoff said that the supplement will provide "an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable research experience in an academic environment" and enable the participating students to "make a more informed decision with respect to their future career choices — stay in academia and pursue a graduate degree, or do something else?" He added that such experiences are "particularly important for Wyoming, where students have limited opportunities over the summer and many end up leaving the state."
