About the Safe Zone Program

Safe Zone has been on the University of Wyoming campus since 1996 and has had countless attendees across the Laramie community.  The Safe Zone symbol appears in many areas of campus such as the Dean of Students Office, ASUW, RA’s rooms, and Admissions, among many other departments and offices.

Safe Zone is a student run educational program. Safe Zone is geared towards creating an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community via workshop style presentations. The issues covered in Safe Zone trainings include, but are not limited to, stereotypes, language, and inequalities. Through this awareness, Safe Zone strives to improve campus climate as well as create a visible support network of allies on campus.

Starting in Spring 2015, Safe Zone began offering an updated version of three educational sessions including an introductory LGB 101, Gender Identity, and Visible Ally Training.

Begining in Fall 2019, Safe Zone began offering a comprehensive training of all three sessions in one two and half hour session. To receive a placard of completion, a person must participate in a workshop where the participants will be asked to examine their personal beliefs and, if they choose, share their thoughts with other participants and the presenter. At the end of your journey, you will receive a placard of completion from Safe Zone.

For more information, please contact the the Safe Zone Coordinator at or by calling 307-766-3117. The Safe Zone Coordinator is currently located in the Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE) Office in Wyoming Union 033.
