Training Descriptions

Safe Zone

Our current workshop includes a detailed look at each of these following topics in one session.

The training starts by discussing terminology and language, stereotypes that surround the LGBTQIA+ community, and effect socialization has had on us as individuals. Then the workshop explores some of the definitions regarding gender identity, gender expression, and sexuality, as well as various components of lived experiences from individuals who are gender minorities. In addition, this will help participants to understand how gender minorities have influenced LGBTQIA+ culture and American history. Lastly, participants are trained to understand what it means to be an LGBTQIA+ ally and how to be an LGBTQIA+ ally. This training will also give participants a better understanding of heterosexual and cisgender privilege and how this relates to being an ally. Finally, this topic will teach participants how to create a “safe zone” for members of the LGBTQIA community. This workshop is highly interactive and focused on reflection by the participants.

After completing a workshop you will receive a placard of completion from Safe Zone.
