About FYI

FYI (First-Year Institute) is a student-led leadership retreat that helps first-year students find their place on campus and make their initial year as successful as possible! The FYI program is run by student facilitators who are highly successful student leaders in their junior and senior years at UW. The FYI student facilitators plan numerous aspects of the institute and facilitate the majority of the leadership development activities.  Participants in the program can expect to learn more about themselves as leaders, the vast involvement opportunities at UW, and meet other first-year students at UW.

This year's FYI retreat will take place September 20-22 in Centennial, Wyoming.

The FYI retreat is 100% FREE to students! This includes transportation, food and lodging.

You can expect:

  • Games, team builders, and campfires
  • To meet a bunch of new people
  • Student-led topics on involvement, time-management, finances, school spirit, academics, and more!
  • Again, the retreat is 100% FREE to students! This includes transportation, food, and cabin use.
