Supplemental Course Websites|Course Studio and eCompanion

Instructors at all levels are invited to work on course materials with our hardware and software and guidance, or on eCompanion or Course Studio websites and course design, in our lab, where you will have ready access to our knowledgeable staff. We will gladly demonstrate procedures, answer your specific questions, or simply explore ideas with you.

Learning Management Systems

For supplementing classroom teaching, the University of Wyoming provides course websites via two online course platforms or learning management systems (LMS's) -- Course Studio and eCompanion. These platforms differ in look-and-feel and functionality; successful deployment requires some investment of time and practice.  All instructors using a course site should read the Online Course Minima for the most concise and critical information.

Note: Students will need to know what course platform you are using and how to access the course website.  Refer them to the Student Info page.

This page will help you get started setting up your course websites and getting your students enrolled in them.  For help with problems, see Troubleshooting Course Websites.

  • Course Studio is a good course supplement for communication and file sharing between instructors and students. Once Course Studio is set up, both the instructor of record and students are automatically enrolled in the course website. Faculty and students use their UWYO domain accounts to log into WyoWeb and then access the course through their "My Courses" window.

  • eCompanion is a good course supplement for tracking announcements, creating threaded discussion, sharing documents among groups, posting and maintaining grades, and managing other teaching activities.

    Instructors submit a Course Request form to ECTL for each course for which they would like an eCompanion course website. ECTL creates a blank shell for each course request, and then notifies instructors when courses are ready for content. Students and instructors are automatically enrolled in their eCompanion course websites. Students can access their courses one week before the semester starts.
