Student Info|Supplemental Course Websites at UWyo
UWyo Supplemental Course Websites (Students)

Students:  If your class is using WyoCourses (by Canvas), eCompanion, or Course Studio as an online supplement, your instructor will have told you which. Choose one set of instructions below, accordingly.

For help with course websites, please call 766-HELP (option 1, then "WyoCourses") or e-mail

Accessing your WyoCourses course website

  1. Go to the WyoCourses Login page.
  2. Login with your UWYO domain name (everything in your UWYO email address before the @) and password.

For more information, see the WyoCourses Student Support page.

If your instructor has requested an eCompanion shell to enhance a classroom course, you are automatically (a) given an eCompanion/OnlineUW account, and (b) enrolled in your eCompanion course shell in conjunction with your official UW registration. Upon enrollment in the eCompanion course site, you receive an automatically-generated e-mail letter explaining how to access your eCompanion course. Click e-mail letter to view a copy of the letter.

Obtaining your eCompanion/OnlineUW password

Your User ID is your UWYO domain (WyoWeb) user name, but your password may be different. At any time, you can retrieve your password through the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page.

Accessing your eCompanion/OnlineUW website

  1. Go to the eCompanion/OnlineUW login page (, and login with your user ID and password.
The system will open your personal eCompanion/OnlineUW Home page. Feel free to explore the links you see there.
  2. To access your eCompanion/OnlineUW courses, click on the "Academics" tab in the upper left-hand corner of your home page, then click on the course name.

eCompanion/OnlineUW email

Your eCompanion/OnlineUW e-mail address is your official UW e-mail address; this cannot be changed. However, you can forward your UW e-mail to some other e-address if you wish. See the UW IT pages for help.

* Your eCompanion/OnlineUW user account is separate from your WyoWeb (UWYO domain) account. As of December 21, 2011, however, the user ID will be the same; your user ID for eCollege/eCompanion will be your UWYO domain user name, the part of your e-mail address up to the '@'.  For example, if your UW e-mail address is "," your login ID for eCompanion will be "jdoe" (rather than your W-number).  Your password, course enrollments, and other data will NOT be affected.

If your instructor tells you that your course materials are in Course Studio (or, perhaps, just "in WyoWeb"),

  1. Login to the WyoWeb portal (
  2. Under the My Courses tab, click the "Course Sites" link. Ensure that the current term is displayed in the drop-down box labeled "Course Schedule for."
You will see a list of the courses for which you are registered.
  3. Click on the course title to enter the home page for a course.
You will see the tools and materials to which your instructor has referred.

TROUBLESHOOTING (both platforms)

For help with web problems, try our Troubleshooting page.  In general, please allow adequate time and resources for the acquisition and use of online course materials, which are provided as a supplemental service to you. In addition, consider the following guidelines/limitations to the use of distance technology:

  • To avoid loss of work due to session time limits, save work online at least every 15-20 minutes.
  • Connections from home through a third-party ISP are fraught with problems beyond our control.
  • Downloading images over a slow connection can take several minutes, perhaps hours. You are invited to use the faster Student Labs.
