TnT Summer Bootcamp

Engaging Students in Large Classes

How do master teachers capture and retain student engagement in large classes? In this session, first teachers in diverse disciplines and learning environments will share their strategies for teaching large classes. Then we'll brainstorm ways to apply these approaches in our own classes. Even if you don't teach large classes, you're likely to find many of these techniques applicable to your teaching.

9:00 am to 12:00 pm | Coe Library 506

Please also join us for the following upcoming sessions.

Community-Engaged Learning

Community-based (AKA service) learning is a great way to provide authentic learning opportunities for students. Perhaps you’ve considered adopting community-based learning, but you aren’t sure where to start. Or maybe you’ve dabbled a bit and want to do more.

In this session, we’ll first learn about UW’s resources for community-based learning. Next, we’ll hear from UW faculty using community-based learning pedagogies inside and outside the classroom.

Teaching with Open Educational Resources (OER)

Are you interested in grant funding to explore new resources for your teaching? Would you like to customize your teaching materials and also lower your students’ debt load? In this session, we will explore innovative educational resources for open textbooks and online teaching materials. We will also share details of a new grant program for faculty who adopt, adapt, or create free or low-cost alternatives to expensive textbooks.

Participants do not need expertise or background in open educational resources, but if you have a project idea or a textbook that you already know you’d like to work with, bring it along! We will have time during the boot camp to brainstorm ideas and answer questions about individual projects.
