Communication Across the Curriculum

The Communication across the Curriculum program, re-established at UW in 2018, is committed to promoting a stronger culture of academic writing and communication across the campus. As it grows, the CxC program will have three major strands to focus its activities: Faculty Support, COM Assessment, and Research.

FACULTY SUPPORT

We provide faculty support for teachers who seek to improve their students’ writing and communication skills, via workshops, ongoing learning communities, and individual consultation.

COM ASSESSMENT

Assessment of the University Studies 2015 “COM” courses. Ongoing assessment of COM courses helps provide the university with information about faculty and student activities and experiences within these key sites of undergraduate learning about written, oral, and digital communication.

RESEARCH

A goal of the Communication across the Curriculum program is an active, impactful research agenda. We seek to identify and support projects (involving faculty in the discipline, interested students, and other campus partners) that can influence local and national conversations about the nature of effective communication in the 21st Century.
