As many of you know, it has been a long-standing Cultural Programs policy to arrange for our visiting artists to give master classes. Obviously, these serve as wonderful opportunities for our students to work with distinguished performers, and our Music and Theatre/Dance faculty have used these residency activities very advantageously as a supplement to their own lessons, classes, and coaching sessions. Because they are additional services, residency activities add $7,000-$9,000 to our annual costs, and while we are committed to continuing these classes, we also recognize that for $7,000-$9,000 you can book a whole concert, and we do have to put concerts first. Thus, we are looking into options, such as grants and fund-raisers, to subsidize our residencies. If you donate money, it will go toward master classes, which means it will go toward the teaching of students, not a bad idea if you're part of a university.
