HIRING OF NON-BENEFITED EMPLOYEES
When a department is hiring a non-benefited employee and would like to pay them on an exempt basis, (i.e. monthly, periodic, or lump sum), a Non-Benefited Job Description Form must accompany the hiring form when submitted to Human Resources. The Classification/Compensation area of HR will then determine the status of the position using FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) guidelines. If it is determined exempt by FLSA guidelines and it meets the salary minimum of $455.00/week, regardless if it is full-time or part-time, the employee can be paid on an exempt basis. If it does not meet the salary minimum and/or FLSA guidelines, the employee will have to be paid on an hourly basis. This excludes Graduate Assistants and "For-Credit" Instructors.
