The Office of Diversity and Employment Practices offers different informational sessions, discussions, and trainings throughout the year.  If you would like more information about training, please call or email our office.  Given enough advance notice, we can also develop custom sessions relating to diversity, fair hiring practices, or other diversity/EEO-related topics.  Contact us for more information.

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination - Since 2004, the Employment Practices Office has been conducting training on sexual harassment prevention and UW Regulation 1-5, which outlines UW's antidiscrimination policy.  The training is mandatory every 3 years for managers and supervisors, including all faculty, and has been well received by those who have already attended.  Employees who attended training of this type prior to 2012 may need to attend a refresher course.  The requirement to attend a training session is important for two reasons:

  • UW is committed to ensuring that the workplace environment across campus conforms to the policies contained in UW Regulation 1-5 - that is, one that is free of discrimination and sexual harassment.
  • Under current law, the University may be liable for the actions of its managers and supervisors if they have not had proper training regarding UW's policies prohibiting sexual harassment and if they do not take appropriate and immediate action to prevent or correct prohibited behavior.

You can now register for a session on your own by visiting and logging into UW Employee Self-Service.  You can view the entire course schedule or search for the course you want to take.  Remember, managers and supervisors are required to attend "Sexual Harassment Prevention" as opposed to the online offerings for non-supervisory staff.  Click on the "Add to Cart" icon to sign up.  You will receive an email confirming your registration as well as a reminder a few days before the course.

We also have an advanced session available! Have you already attended our basic session but it's time to renew your training requirement? Do you want to experience something different than before? Then this advanced course is for you.  Focused entirely on case studies, participants will apply the concepts and UW policies/procedures learned in the original session.  You will practice resolving sensitive issues in a dynamic and non-threatening group environment.  Be prepared to actively participate in this engaging and educational session designed to further develop your supervisory and management skills.

If you have problems registering, please call or email our office (x3459).  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Trainings are currently scheduled for the following dates and times:

UW - A Diverse Workplace (OFCCP Training) - Human Resources is offering training sessions to the campus community, providing an opportunity to refresh their knowledge of best practices in fair hiring and to increase awareness of the employment issues pertaining to Individuals with Disabilities and Protected Veterans.  This course is a required training for any and all employees involved with personnel decisions:  All aspects of hiring (including sitting on an interview committee) tenure and promotion, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions including termination.  This presentation covers Equal Opportunity Employment, Affirmative Action and specific regulations related to Protected Veterans and Individuals with Disabilities.  Visit the HR Training Opportunities page for more information and to register.

Diversity Sessions - The Office of Diversity and Employment Practices has developed a diversity session that is available to all of campus as well as community partners.  "Putting People First: The Wyoming Way" is not what you typically think of when you hear "diversity."  The session is engaging, fun, and interactive.  Our dynamic team uses conversation, music, and humor to have an honest discussion about why diversity is important, how it affects us all, and how everyone is diverse.  We don't focus on what you should or shouldn't say, political correctness, or blaming people for previous biases.  The session is usually two hours, though a longer, more in-depth session is also available for staff retreats, etc.  Please call 766-3459 or email if you are interested in a session or have any questions!
