March 30, 2009 -- A new 20 mph speed limit is now in effect on streets surrounding the core University of Wyoming campus.

Speed limit signs have been posted to advise motorists that the reduced speed limit is now in effect on 9th, Lewis, Ivinson and 15th streets surrounding the campus, according to Mark Collins, UW associate vice president for administration.

"The lower speed limit due to the high volume of pedestrian traffic in these areas," Collins says. "This, along with expanded and more visible pedestrian crosswalks and signage are among traffic safety measures being implemented in and around the campus."

He says the 20 mph speed limit is now being enforced in the designated areas.
