American Counseling Association names Carnes-Holt 2015 Best Practice Award recipient -- Kara Carnes-Holt, UW assistant professor of professional studies, has received the American Counseling Association (ACA) 2015 Best Practice Award for her research and publication of the journal article, “The Efficacy of Child Parent Relationship Therapy for Adopted Children with Attachment Disruptions.”

WyoMakers brings makerspace movement, creative learning and design to UW, Wyoming -- New cross-generational and interdisciplinary collaborative opportunities to engage students of all ages in creative projects drawing on design and problem solving skills launched at the UW College of Education with the opening of WyoMakers.

"We are Wyoming" Project: Expanding opportunities, resources for meeting state fourth grade standards -- The Wyoming fourth grade experience – and opportunities for meeting educational standards for learning the state’s history and culture – has just expanded, thanks to a new University of Wyoming College of Education project.

2015 College of Education Research Symposium -- The 2015 College of Education Research Symposium is scheduled for Friday, March 6, in the Education Annex.

Helmsing participates in Project Citizen workshop, promotes civic engagement, prepares social studies educators -- A new UW College of Education faculty member, a nationally-renowned author, and educators interested in building student interest in civic engagement has resulted in renewed efforts to expand statewide collaboration of educational opportunities grounded in social studies.

Australia Awakening -- The Australia Professional Learning and Leadership Initiative is a collaborative project between the UW College of Education and Albany County School District 1. The project was sponsored by ACSD 1 and an innovative course grant from UW’s Outreach school.  Participants developed skills to lead collaborative learning teams to sustain meaningful professional development based on the outcomes outlined for the three-credit course.

Robertson research building literacy tutoring capacity -- A major capacity-building initiative with the potential to significantly expand the literacy resources available to the state’s school children heads toward a pilot phase at the University of Wyoming College of Education.

WyCel: New initiative targets principal,superintendent professional development -- While professional development resources for instructional staff has been strong historically, one critical group in Wyoming’s K-12 community has not had similar growth opportunities: district and school administrators.

UW adult & postsecondary ed doctorates second in GoGrad.org online degree ranking -- Two University of Wyoming educational administration programs are second on a national “Online Doctorate in Education” ranking generated by GoGrad.org (www.gograd.org).

Estate gift benefits UW education students -- An estate gift of $1.8 million from retired educator Raymond D. Kennedy of Laramie will support scholarships for generations of students enrolled in University of Wyoming College of Education through the Raymond D. Kennedy College of Education Scholarship endowment.

WyoMakers named "Best of Laramie" education -- WyoMakers, a makerspace a program of the University of Wyoming College of Education, recently received the 2015 Best of Laramie Award in Education by the Laramie Award Program.

UW Guitar-Building Institute gives teachers hands-on practice - and inspiration for innovative STEM project -- Can students find inspiration – and STEM learning – in the process of guitar making?

Groups seek money for educational development (Billings Gazette) -- Two groups are asking the Wyoming State Board of Education for almost $348,000 to support professional development for teachers and administrators. The contract requests are in response to a state law passed during the last legislative session that tasks the Education Department with developing a statewide system of support for education. The Wyoming Education Association and the newly created Wyoming Center for Educational Leadership, located within the University of Wyoming's College of Education, have issued proposals.

UW's "Park County Evening" humorous, informative -- Local media coverage (Cody Enterprise) of a University of Wyoming event held in Park County. Dean Ray Reutzel represented the College of Education and offered insights about the college's future and the Trustees College of Education Initiative.

Two College of Education programs receive highest program rating -- Two University of Wyoming College of Education academic programs received the highest-possible rating during a comprehensive set of reviews conducted in preparation for its 2016 reaccreditation process.

The “Contraption Room:” STEM in the preschool classroom -- The University of Wyoming Early Care and Education Center recently embarked on a new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) project called the “Contraption Room.”

Dana Robertson named director of UW Literacy Research Center & Clinic -- An elementary literacy specialist with strong experience developing and enhancing clinical tutoring programs is the first director of the University of Wyoming Literacy Research Center and Clinic (LRCC).

Dousay co-edits latest edition of classic instructional design text -- Congratulations to Tonia Dousay, assistant professor of professional studies, for her role in launching the latest edition of a classic instructional design text. Dousay co-edited the fifth edition of The Survey of Instructional Design Models with Rob Maribe Branch, professor and head of the Department of Career and Information Studies at the University of Georgia.

Mary Alice Bruce receives inaugural ACES Legacy Award -- A longtime University of Wyoming counselor education faculty member’s lifelong commitment to her profession, her students and her peers was spotlighted during the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s (ACES) 2015 conference earlier this month.

Second Kappa Delta Pi clothing swap scheduled for Dec. 5, poster on inaugural event draws raves at national KDP conference -- Following on the heels of a successful 2014 event, UW’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi education honorary plans its second campus clothing swap Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Education Annex.

Research identifying STEM-based ag mechanics applied learning lab needs receives national poster award -- A poster session describing research led by UW College of Education faculty member Chris Haynes earned “Distinguished Research Poster” recognition at the 34th National Agricultural Mechanics Professional Development Blue Ribbon Research Conference.

Epic service project effort leads to major coat drive success by College of Education freshman seminar students -- More than 340 coats, several hats and multiple mitten sets are headed to Laramie residents in need this Christmas, thanks to the efforts of University of Wyoming freshmen athletes enrolled in a College of Education class.
