Title: Start with Strengths: An Assets Based Approach to EL Instruction

Time: Saturday

Abstract: When planning instruction for English Learners, we tend to focus on the deficits in language proficiency and how we can quickly close the gaps in academic language. But what would happen if we flipped the narrative and focused first on the assets our English Learners bring with them to the classroom; using those assets to launch our instruction? During this session we will focus on techniques to discover and use our students diverse assets to accelerate classroom instruction.
