Harbour to chair national community college research organization

Cliff Harbour, UW associate professor of professional studies, is the new president-elect of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges (CSCC).

Harbour begins a three-year term that will include leading a planning committee charged with organizing the next annual meeting in April 2014. He will then serve as the group’s president, followed by year as past president.

Harbour began his career in higher education in 1987 at Durham Technical Community College in Durham, N.C. He finished his community college service in 2001 as the college’s dean for academic programs, where he also served on the President’s Executive Council.  Before coming to the University of Wyoming in 2008, Cliff was an associate professor in the School of Education at Colorado State University.

Harbour holds graduate degrees from North Carolina State University and Duke University. He also is a licensed attorney.  Harbour’s research focuses on institutional accountability and the need for a new democracy-based vision to support the continuing evolution of community colleges.

CSCC is the nation’s largest professional association of community college researchers. It was established in 1956. CSCC is affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges, the nation’s largest advocacy group for community colleges.
