The University of Wyoming College of Education offers three certification/endorsement programs in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education.

1) The Early Childhood Birth-Eight program is an endorsement program for elementary education majors who have completed required courses and, 1) student teaching in the primary grades (K-3) and 2) an internship/apprenticeship in a birth to five setting.

Early Childhood Birth to Eight Endorsement

2) The Early Childhood Birth-Five program is an initial certification program for those majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences/Child Development Option or other related fields. This is an initial certification program that prepares candidates to teach children, birth to five, in early childhood care and education settings. Candidates are required to complete six courses and a six hour internship in an accredited early childhood care and education setting. Please note that this certification does not prepare candidates to teach children in K-3 grade classrooms.

Distance courses offered through the UW Outreach School enable students from throughout the state to take courses without traveling to Laramie. Most courses are offered through distance delivery and can be taken from the student's hometown.

Early Childhood Birth to Five Endorsement

3) The Early Childhood Special Education program is a post-graduate, initial certification/endorsement program that prepares candidates to work with young children with special needs in Developmental Preschool Centers and other early childhood B-5 settings that include young children with special needs. The program is consistent with national standards and state certification requirements, offering a master's degree option. Candidates are required to take a series of seven courses and complete a three to six hour supervised practicum in an inclusive early childhood setting. Those eligible for admission to this program include certified Elementary Education teachers, Family and Consumer Sciences/Child Development majors and those with a BA/BS in related fields.
