Creative Writing Minor

The creative writing minor consists of six courses (18 credit hours) in creative writing or related courses. Four of these courses will be in creative writing (12 credit hours): three Lower Division and one Upper Division. The sequence is as follows:

• English 1040: Intro to Creative Writing [must be taken first]
• two Lower Division Creative Writing
• Upper Division Creative Writing course
• Two courses in literature (6 credit hours), one of which must be at the 3000- or 4000-level. [literature courses may be taken at any time in the sequence]

This minor is designed to be used with any major and must be designed in conjunction with a creative writing advisor. English majors may choose to have a minor in creative writing, but "at least 12 credit hours in a minor must be from courses not counted toward the student's major" (UW General Bulletin). Each course must be passed with a grade of C or better.
 
Declaration of the minor places the earned minor on your transcript. If you do not officially declare a minor, your transcript will not reflect its completion.

• Two Lower Division Creative Writing Courses (6 credit hours)
  ENGL 2050, 2060, 2070, 2080
• One Upper Division Creative Writing Course (3 credit hours)
  ENGL 4050 [in one genre: Poetry, Fiction, or Creative Non-Fiction]
• Two Literature Courses (6 credit hours)
