Alex Rickert

Graduate Student

Alex finished his BA in English Literature and French at the University of Wyoming in 2015 before fleeing the country. He entered the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, and taught ESL in a rural community close to Tokyo, Japan for 3 years before resolving to continue pursuing literature and instruction. During this time, he also wrote about LGBTIQ issues in the popular Japanese travel blog Gaijinpot. His undergraduate thesis focused on the meaningful ways in which African American writers used spoken dialect in literature, but his current research interests have expanded to the realms of sci-fi, feminist issues, and time travel. He enjoys bouldering, podcasts, reading on the train, and his precious Nintendo Switch.
