Citation and MLA Style
There are several different citation styles; most citation styles provide guidelines for the following elements of writing:
- Titles and title pages
- In-text citation of outside evidence
- Headers and page numbering
- Sections headings within the document
- Bibliographies or Works Cited pages
- Margins, line-spacing, and appropriate font manipulations (bold, italics, sizing, etc.)
In ENGL 1010, most instructors follow the citation style of the Modern Language Association (MLA). During this course, you'll be expected to learn and apply the basic elements of this style. The Purdue OWL's 2009 MLA Guide provides explanations of general format expectations as well as specific format examples for citing various types of sources. Additionally, you can use this template as a starting point for papers in ENGL 1010.
