The faculty and staff of the Composition Program understand that the gap between high school and college involves more than time. English 1010 is designed to help new University of Wyoming students transition to the ways of thinking and making meaning necessary for success regardless of their major and interests. At the end of the semester, students in ENGL 1010 should be able to complete a research-based essay that reflects their own points of view, that demonstrates thoughtful engagement with extensive and complex readings, and synthesizes abstract concepts taken from disparate sources. In order to achieve this goal, we work with the types of texts common in the university and focus on incorporating these texts as evidence in support of compelling written arguments.
