- Winter Recreation is an essential economic role on our economy. But if you don't
protect the resource you won't have to worry about the economy. If too many people crowd
the Snowy Range the businesses will lose revenue because the surroundings will be a good
place to recreate.
- Although the use of recreation supports businesses and has some economic value, we must
consider values other than economic when thinking about the fragile environment in the
Snowies. We need to preserve these resources for future generations- NOT DESTROY THEM. The
most beneficial solution would be for these (motorized rec.) businesses to segue into a
different line of business that is beneficial to everyone!
- I make my winter living in the Snowy Range guiding snowmobile tours. I feel that there
is no problem unless the skiers want to pay my winter income.
- Addressing this issue with a Republican administration is pointless. They only care
about profit. To Heck with wildlife, to Heck with environment, to Heck with the experience
of a pristine winter environment. Profit, Profit, Profit.
- Many businesses depend on snowmobiles for support. Curtailing snowmobiles will hurt
their lifestyle. Business owners "Favor" one group more than another.
- The financial impact is tremendous on this community. It is our only growing sector or
maintaining sector of tourism.
- Winter business is larger than summer
- With the pressures of a Yellowstone snowmobile ban looming in the near distant future,
the Forest Service needs to seriously address the issue of increased pressure on
the State Trails. Even the Medicine Bow-Routt will be impacted. Limiting snowmobile
use now will only make matters worse (crowding, user conflict). What about outfitters who
may have to turn away business and dollars flowing into our economy because the Forest
Service won't allow more use-and restrict that which is now allowed. It's a simple
matter of Supply and Demand.
- Mineral production is not the only inflow to our economy-Recreation is too and
snowmobiling is a mainstay.
- We don't want our quality of life destroyed just so a snowmobile dealer can make money.
- Dealers & Suppliers should get on board & help solve some issues
- Winter Recreation is integral to my business, and public access is a necessary
component. We have recently seen the value of public land as Laramie neighbor to the east
has restricted access across his land. All forms of recreation on public land will have
increased pressure as private land access is restricted.
- Our quality of life is not being destroyed by snowmobile dealer
- Local businesses need the revenue from snowmobiling and other winter use. Don't limit
their income unless you are willing to limit yours!
- Locally speaking, our current business opportunities are at a definite minimum. If
snowmobile users are cut down from this area our local economy will suffer. I welcome new
business to our community & would hate to see another industry wounded in this area.
- Local businesses are relying too much on the quick buck and profit from snowmobiling at
the cost of the Environment instead of finding cleaner ways of making a living and
preserving the Snowy Range
- Businesses are promoting snowmobiling too much, so too many users are coming to Snowies
and causing resource damage and degrading area for non-motorized users. Limit out of state
promotion/profit of business at long term expense of resource and local users
- The lost city & county sales, use, and gas tax would be a tremendous blow to this
community if snowmobiling were to be restricted
- Businesses have no rights in this matter. It's the people's forest, not a corporate
moneymaking enterprise. Leave businesses out of collaborative groups.
- The businesses surrounding the Snowies have made an effort to encourage use of the area.
Many of our locals are employed in state jobs & view the Snowies as their own
playground. Were it possible to educate these folks in the way of true business ie: the
requirement to make profit, payroll, taxes, etc they may be less critical of snowmobile
based business.
- Snowy Range businesses that are open in the winter rely too much on snow machine
operation & their cash. Other users (esp. skiers, snowboarders) are too few in number
& dollars-spent to have a voice. Craig Mueller 970-493-7779
- I am very concerned that there would be a severe negative effect in business if winter
recreation were diminished. Roy DeVries Laramie
- As a business owner in Centennial we rely heavily on snowmobile traffic in the winter.
We enjoy catering to them because they are always fun-loving, happy & courteous. We've
invested our time & money in the area because we believe it has a lot to offer to a
cross section of people. We do not believe that we should impose some of the ridiculous
regulations that are being proposed against the use of snowmobiles.
- Businesses should be allowed to prosper from all winter activities
- Many businesses benefit/need winter rec. to survive in Laramie
- If we limit winter recreation in Wyoming and the Snowy Range it will impact the local
and Wyoming Economics. Severely
- Too heavy emphasis placed on business interest at this point. We go out there & up
there to get away from commercialism. The Snowy Range should not be for sale to any
business interests
- With a heavy emphasis on Ag production in Wyoming, we have a cyclical economy.
Snowmobiling helps several industries locally survive through the winter months.
- Support of business is not an issue. The forest is not here as a business entity
- Please don't limit winter recreation at Snowy Range. The area is not crowded at all. It
is plenty big enough for all to enjoy & support the total businesses.
- I've been snowmobiling since I was around 5 years old. The past quite a few years I've
been commuting to Snowy Range, and each year I spend $4,000 at a minimum, and I don't even
buy my sled in Wyo. What do you think that is going to do to the Tourism here? And I am
just one of over 10,000+ snowmobilers from NEBRASKA!
- 1. We are spending millions of dollars in the restaurant, lodging, & service
business for the snowmobiler & skier who enjoys the Snowy Range. We fell that both
ENTITIES can enjoy the Snowies together if common sense & not selfishness will be
used.
2. ECONOMICALLY speaking millions of Recreational dollars will be lost if
unwise decisions are made & usage of the Snowy Range is curtailed. But if proper
guidelines are instituted then we can have the best of both worlds. Please select members
of the task force that possess common sense, an open mind, UNBIASED & pleasant. If you
select biased, selfish, little minded [people] who can't see the whole of what will happen
when the final rules of usage have been determined---we all will lose. The Snowies belong
to all of us not to a few selfish people.
