What We Do

Outreach

Information gained in research projects and policy analyses helps inform decision-makers and the public. Through email bulletins, for example, the Institute provides information and data about land use, wildlife habitat, agriculture, and population trends in Wyoming.

Service

Upon request the Institute serves as a neutral convener for meetings and workshops that bring together wide-ranging viewpoints on a topic or problem. The Institute provides meeting design, logistics, protocols and ground rules, facilitation, and report production. The Institute also sponsors or conducts training in collaborative problem-solving skills.

Research and Policy Analysis

The Ruckelshaus Institute helps secure and coordinate funding for UW faculty research on many environmental and natural resource issues. Most recently, these include addressing issues related to coalbed methane research, ozone air quality in Sublette County, renewable energy projects such as wind development, impacts of water development projects on rural housing sprawl, and the impacts of climate change on Wyoming and the West's water resources. Faculty, students, or other partners who are interested in discussing research opportunities should contact the Director Indy Burke at (307) 766-5080.

The Institute also synthesizes information and conducts policy analyses at the request of government officials, non-governmental organizations, and citizens.  Findings from research and policy analyses are discussed with the Institute Board and may result in policy recommendations from the Board.
