Why the Haub School?

ENR students and staff on a field trip to Washington D.C. in spring 2008.  In threee days of visits to the World Bank, General Electric, Meridian Institute, Environmental Defense, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations, students learned first-hand how natural resource policy is made and shaped.  Here, students meet with Dan Beard, Chief Administrative Officer for the U.S. House of Representatives, who has spearheaded efforts to "green" the House.

A World of Opportunities
If you want the opportunity to learn about and practice innovative approaches to dealing with environment and natural resource issues, our program may be just right for you.  At the University of Wyoming, we're committed to educating problem solvers who can make a difference right after graduation.  How?

Unlike many environment and natural resource programs at other universities that skim the surface of a wide variety of issues, UW's Haub School combines interdisciplinary breadth with a depth of training in a traditional discipline. We do that through a double major approach that adds ENR as a second major to any other major at UW. This makes our graduates highly marketable and particularly prepared for careers in ENR.

ENR issues are inherently complex. We explore the full range of disciplines and perspectives at play. While some universities focus only on the science of ENR issues, for example, our students are exposed to the legal, ethical, economic, scientific, and other perspectives at work in contentious ENR issues.

We'll also teach you how to solve problems the way it's done in the real world.  In the Haub School, we use problem-based learning that challenges students to analyze real, ongoing ENR issues in Wyoming, the nation, and the world. We do that through work in interdisciplinary teams of students and faculty, modeled after the problem solving used by so many ENR professionals in the field. And that will make you even more competitive in the job market.

As a student in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, you'll be enrolled in a traditional major offered by one of our seven colleges--Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Health sciences, and Law.  That means you'll have the in-depth knowledge specialists need.  As a graduate, you'll understand the complexity of environment and natural resource problems.  And, you'll be ready to be an engaged citizen and an effective ENR professional.
