M. regalis, a colorful species of Melanoplus, has only
been recorded once in Wyoming. It probably occurs in other areas of southeast
Wyoming adjacent to Colorado, where it is common. The shortgrass prairie
is its preferred habitat. Eggs are assumed to overwinter in the soil. This
adult specimen was collected July 17, 1991. This species has no economic
importance in Wyoming.
