Melanoplus regalis

M. regalis, a colorful species of Melanoplus, has only been recorded once in Wyoming. It probably occurs in other areas of southeast Wyoming adjacent to Colorado, where it is common. The shortgrass prairie is its preferred habitat. Eggs are assumed to overwinter in the soil. This adult specimen was collected July 17, 1991. This species has no economic importance in Wyoming.
