Melanoplus kennicotti is found in open meadows at moderate elevations
in Wyoming mountains. It prefers dry grassy areas with coarse soil. The
life cycle of this grasshopper is not known in Wyoming but it is assumed
that the eggs overwinter in the soil. Adults are present in late July and
August. Populations can be high in localized areas, but because it is found
in limited habitat at higher elevation it is not considered an economically
damaging species in Wyoming.
