Common name: BLACK-MALES GRASSHOPPER, BOOPIE.

Size: 25-39 mm.

General distribution: Montana through central United States; S. to central Mexico.

Distribution in New Mexico: Widely distributed in east central and southern grassland.

Habitat: Grassland.

Host: Blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis).

Adults Present: July-October.

Notes: Males black with short wings; females usually brown to green (occasionally black) with short wings. Occasional pests on rangeland.
