Hesperotettix speciosus (Scudder)

Size: 20-28 mm.

General distribution: S. Illinois, W. to Montana, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Distribution in New Mexico: Chaves, Curry, DeBaca, Guadalupe, Harding, Lea, Lincoln, Quay, Rio Arriba, Roosevelt, Torrance, Union.

Habitat: Mostly dry, disturbed weedy areas in grasslands.

Host: Ambrosia sp. (Western ragweed), Helianthus annuus (sunflower), Solidago sp., other composite forbs.

Adults Present: ?

Notes: Mostly green with red antennae and pink or red median carina; tegmina somewhat reduced; generally not as heavily marked as other members of the genus. Not economically important.
