Habitat: Non-saline playa lakes.
Adults Present: May-November.
Notes: An extremely localized band-winged grasshopper. Otte (1984) states that only six specimens were known. Several specimens have since been collected at a playa lake north of Las Cruces and near Grants. One incomplete distinct band on tegmina; hind wings with yellow basal area and smoky posterior distal area, no distinct band; body generally tan; hind tibiae yellow with white proximal ring. Differs from related Encoptolophus in having only one distinct band on tegmina and in lacking dark bands in middle of hind femora. Not economically important.
