Trachyrhachys kiowa (Thomas) [= T. mexicanus]

Common name: KIOWA RANGE GRASSHOPPER.

Size: 20-30 mm.

General distribution: SW Canada through the United States, except the SE, S. to Guatemala.

Distribution in New Mexico: Bernalillo, Colfax, Dona Ana, Guadalupe, Hidalgo, Lea, Lincoln, Rio Arriba, Torrance, Socorro, Union.

Habitat: Grassland, especially swales.

Host: Range grasses.

Adults Present: June-November.

Notes: Similar to T. aspera, but hind tibiae not black at end and dark band of hind wing central or absent. Occasionally destructive on rangeland.
