Sallie Greenberg is the principal investigator for the Illinois Basin – Decatur Project (IBDP) and serves as the Director of the Midwest Geological Sequestration Consortium (MGSC), one of the US Department of Energy’s seven regional sequestration partnerships. As the Associate Director of Energy Research and Development at the Illinois State Geological Survey, Sallie leads a team of scientists engaged in carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects. Sallie has more than 20+ years of experience in environmental geology with a focus on understanding the societal implications of natural resource utilization and climate change issues. For more than ten years she has created and implemented knowledge sharing and capacity building programs to publically engage stakeholders in carbon capture, utilization, and storage with the long-term goal of advancing the deployment of commercial-scale projects. Her combined training as an environmental geologist and a geoscience educator provide a unique perspective on understanding public challenges related to climate change, carbon sequestration, and energy. Her work focuses on understanding social components of complex geological issues, though program evaluations and stakeholder engagement. Sallie holds advanced degrees in geology and education.
