Undergraduate Research Fellowships|Wyoming EPSCoR

General Information

The Wyoming EPSCoR Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program provides salary support for outstanding undergraduate students in Biological Sciences, Geosciences, Hydrology, Computational Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics.

The students are eligible to receive up to $750 during the fall and spring semesters and $3,500 in the summer. This funding is for student salary ONLY; funds to support research material or travel must come from another source such as the faculty mentor.  The faculty mentor should address financial and material support for the project in his/her letter of commitment.

The Fellowships are awarded on the basis of the scholarship of the student, the proposed research activity and the mentoring by the faculty member. Literature reviews and survey research are not ordinarily considered for these awards.

Information for EPSCoR fellows who are reapplying

Application process is the same each time you apply. Letters of recommendation can be used for two consecutive semesters. For example, if you were accepted for the fall fellowship, we will use your letters of recommendation for the spring. After that, when you re-apply, you will need current letters. Additionally, fellows who are reapplying need to include a brief discussion of the EPSCoR-supported research they have done under past fellowships.

Selection Process

Applications undergo careful review by a panel of UW faculty members based on the following:

  • evaluation of scholarship,
  • evaluation of research activity, and
  • evaluation of faculty support.

For further information or if you have any questions please contact Lisa Abeyta.

Requirements of Participation

In addition to performing the research for the project, all Fellows are required to

  • Conduct the proposed independent study project under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
  • Write a research paper describing the project and results.
