Two new, co-located facilities will be central to the goals of WyCEHG :
(1) Facility for Imaging the Near- and Sub-surface Environment (FINSE). FINSE will comprise subsurface geophysical imaging instrumentation, encompassing a comprehensive suite of capabilities including acoustic, gravity, electrical, magnetic, ground-penetrating radar, and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.
(2) Surface and Subsurface Hydrology Lab (SSHL). SSHL will house physical infrastructure to support surface and subsurface hydrological investigations, including equipment for monitoring ecological, hydrological, and geochemical parameters.
(3) Cyberinfrastructure. Bryan Shader, team lead.
Both FINSE and SSHL support educational activities during the effort to bolster Wyoming’s workforce in science. The facility instruments will support all research initiatives, including joint deployments in several watershed-scale study sites in Wyoming where key hydrological processes are expressed and critical hypotheses can be tested. The facilities will enable significant new ventures in environmental hydrology and rapid response to stakeholders who have identified water-resource issues that require the concentration of instrumentation and personnel otherwise unavailable in Wyoming.
Data from field sites will help build and validate high-performance computational models of coupled surface and subsurface flow that will run on the new NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center.
Mount Moran is an IBM System X cluster that can be accessed and can provide up to 400 TB of raw storage.
