Research Project: Locusts in Caucasus and Central Asia

Locusts are serious threat for agriculture in Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan). Three locust pests, the Italian locust Calliptamus italicus (Linnaeus, 1758), the Moroccan locust Dociostaurus maroccanus (Thunberg, 1815), and the Asian Migratory locust Locusta migratoria migratoria (Linnaeus, 1758), jeopardize food security and livelihood in both regions as well as in adjacent areas of northern Afghanistan and southern Russian Federation.

As International Consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO UN) I participate in different activities in both regions aimed at promoting the international cooperation between all affected countries and strengthening their national capacities in locust control. To learn more, visit bilingual (English/Russian) FAO UN website "Locust Watch CCA"

Reports on accomplished activities can be found at :
