ESM Soil Science Faculty and Research
Thijs Kelleners, Soil Science
Research interests: water flow, heat transport, and solute transport in the soil, linkages with the atmosphere, the surrounding terrain, and the deeper sub-surface (e.g. the groundwater), modeling the soil-water-plant-atmosphere system, both at the field scale and at the catchment scale.
Larry Munn, Soil Science
Research interests: soil genesis, morphology and classification, soil- native plant community relationships, mineland reclamation, coal bed methane development effects on soils and landscapes.
Jay Norton, Soil Science
Research interests: nutrient cycling in natural, disturbed, and agricultural settings from the perspective of landscape and soil organic matter dynamics, interactions among landscapes, plant communities, and land use affect resiliency and degradation-recovery processes as applied to on-the-ground ecological restoration and sustainable management.
Pete Stahl, Soil Science
Research interests: spatial and temporal variability of soil microbial communities, response and recovery of soil microbial communities and their ecosystem functions to various forms of disturbance, influence of land management practices on soil microbial community structure and function, nutrient cycling.
Steve Willaims, Soil Science
Research interests: symbiotic associations between plants and soil microorganisms including applications in mineland reclamation, wildland ecology and intensive agriculture, interactions and biocycling of metals by soil biota, below ground parameters that impact revegetation and restoration of disturbed lands, climate change impacts on soils and soil biota at high elevations.
