Earth System Science is an interdisciplinary degree program that integrates various fields of academic study to understand the Earth as a system. A Bachelor of Science degree in Earth System Science (ESS) will provide an integrated approach to pressing issues of global environmental change. Courses offered in the program examine interactions among components of the Earth system, including the anthrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere.
Students who plan to pursue a concentration in Soil Science will do so through the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management. Soil Science is an integrated concentration that unifies interactions among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. An ESS degree with a concentration in Soil Science enhances educational opportunities for students by offering unique learning experiences because of UW's location, resources and faculty.
For a list of Earth System Science course descriptions, please see the University Catalog.
If you are interested in one of the other concentrations or would like more information about the program please visit UW’s Earth System Science website.
